The Sûreté du Québec has launched the 16th edition of its Cadet Program, deploying more than 200 student and graduate recruits in police techniques across 74 cities and towns throughout Quebec this summer.
Announced on June 1, 2026, the program sees cadets assigned to neighbourhood and park patrols, citizen information requests, and surveillance and prevention activities alongside regular officers. The season runs for 10 to 12 consecutive weeks.
This year’s program will also feature the rollout of a National Prevention Operation focused on campsite safety, with cadets serving as key participants.
According to the Sûreté du Québec, cadets collectively carry out more than 3,000 prevention, sponsorship, and community outreach activities each summer season. The program is deployed in partnership with the municipalities that host the cadets.
The Sûreté du Québec highlighted the program’s long-term impact on its workforce. More than 550 current officers are former cadets, representing 29 per cent of all new hires in 2025.
“It is a rewarding work experience for future police officers,” the Sûreté du Québec said in its press release, noting the program is distinguished by the quality of training and mentorship provided throughout the season.
Updates on the program and cadet experiences will be posted to the Sûreté du Québec’s website and social media channels over the course of the summer.
